Absence and Lateness

If your child has to be absent for any reason please contact the school with the details. This may be done in person, by telephone call or by email to a3359@telford.gov.uk. Any absence not notified is recorded as unauthorised. Late arrival at school is recorded in the attendance register. Occasional late arrival may be unavoidable, however, again please notify the school. Persistent late arrival would be investigated by the Local Authority. The school is committed to endeavouring to contact parents by telephone by 9.30am on the first day of any child’s unreported absence (to check against the child failing to arrive at school).
Children who arrive after 9.30am will be recorded as having an unauthorised absence (see below).

UNAUTHORISED ABSENCES
It is a legal requirement that we report to parents annually the number of unauthorised absences that their children have made during the year. Where a child is sick or receiving medical treatment this is marked as such in the attendance register and will NOT be recorded as unauthorised. Other absences can be authorised by the Headteacher if they satisfy the following criteria:
it is essential that the child be absent from school for the particular occasion;
i.e. family funeral or emergency
CLEARLY THIS CRITERIA WILL ONLY BE SATISFIED ON VERY FEW OCCASIONS.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE DRING TERM TIME INCLUDING FAMILY HOLIDAYS DURING TERM TIME
Parents do not have an automatic right to withdraw pupils from school for a holiday or any other reason and, in law, have to apply for permission in advance. Such permission is granted in accordance with the legal framework. Only in exceptional circumstances may the amount of leave be granted.
